3.3 Collect and review data using appropriate methods, including primary and secondary research techniques The researcher used the questionnaire method as his primary research technique. The survey questionnaire was adapted from a previous research done by an Advertising agency regarding effectiveness of advertising. This survey was then distributed online to a sample population within Metro Manila. And the secondary research technique that was used was from the study of Mr. Honorata Ocampo Lee which is about Comparison of the effectiveness of the physical distribution processess and strategies of Coca Cola bottlers Philippines Inc. and Pepsi Cola products Philippines Inc. in selected districts in Manila for the year 2001-2003. 3.4 Analyze and interpret appropriate qualitative and quantitative data Quantitative research uses a scientific approach; the researcher’s hypothesis which stated in his study will need to have an attempt in proving and disproving that hypothesis. The data that will be generated can be analyzed mathematically. (Primary and Secondary research) The researcher used questionnaire to Qualitative research is concerned with the opinions and feelings; the data that will be collected is not necessarily set of numbers. It looks at the overall image rather than the separate components. Among the 50 respondents, 40 percent (20 respondents) said yes and 60 percent (30 respondents) said they haven’t seen the adver tisement yet. 2. How would you rate the overall quality of this advertisement? 40 percent of the respondents thought that the advertisement was good. 32% answered fair, 16% answered very good, and 12% answered excellent. None of the respondents answered poor. The data suggests that majority of the respondents thought of the advertisement as good enough or slightly above average. 3. How would you rate this advertisement compared with the others you’ve seen with familiar products/services? Majority (64%) of the respondents answered that the Coca-Cola advertisement was just â€Å"about the same† as other products’ advertisements. Meanwhile 20% answered that their ads were â€Å"A Little Better than the Others† and 8% thought that it was much better than the others. On the other hand 8% answered that the advertisement was a little worse than others. This data shows that, like the previous analysis, the Coca-Cola â€Å"Open Happiness† advertising comes across to the majority of the viewers as just average or slightly above average. 4. Are You Currently Using This Product A majority of the respondents (86%) said to be currently drinking Coca-Cola meanwhile 14% claimed that they are not currently using Coca-Cola. 5. After seeing this advertisement, would you want to buy this product? A majority (95%) of the respondents were still determined to buy the product after seeing the advertisement and 5% said that they would not want to buy the product. Up by 9% from the people who claimed to not have been using Coca-Cola at the moment, the data shows that the advertising has given an impact only to a small amount of respondents to buy Coca-Cola. However, the data also shows that regular consumers are still willing to purchase Coca-Cola even though the advertisement did not come out that strong, as shown from the results in the second question. 6. Have you ever used this product? The chart below shows that 100% or all of the respondents claim to have used or bought Coca Cola at one point in their lives. 7. Age Among the 50 respondents, 30 (40%) were within the ages 18-25, 8 (16%) were 26-30, 12 (24%) were 31-35, 5 (10%) were 36-40, 3(6%) were 41-45, and 2 (3%) were 46-50. 8. Gender The chart below shows that majority (68%) of the respondents are male and 31% are female. 4.3 Evaluate the methodology used and critically analyze the findings The researcher used the Questionnaire method. This method was chosen because using a questionnaire with a random sample is a good way to find out the attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors of a large group of people. The questionnaire that was used contained Close-Ended Questions. A set of choices was given to the respondents for them to be able to answer the questions. Aside from that, the researcher also chose to use Likert-Scales as this would be the basis to determine the level of effectiveness of the advertisements. Likert-scales consist of questions that would be answered by ranking them (Strongly Agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree, Strongly Disagree) The method used would have been more effective if partnered with a select interview coming from each type of age group. The questionnaire method was proven effective in getting the opinions of the majority of the population. On the other hand, the interview method could have gotten more in-depth insights or feedback from the consumers regarding their opinion on Coca-Cola’s advertising and how it affects them as a consumer. 4.4 Propose recommendations based on the findings which identify and justify areas for future research Through the years, Coca-Cola had always come out strong in their advertising materials. Good examples of it would be Coke’s â€Å"It’s the Real Thing† and â€Å"I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke† during the 70’s and 80’s. These advertisements have helped propel Coca-Cola into it’s status now as the number one beverage company in the world. However for this decade, Coca-Cola’s â€Å"Open Happiness† Campaign didn’t come out as strong as their previous advertisements. They haven’t been as visible to the public eye as before. As shown in the first question, a majority of the respondents haven’t even seen the advertising material of â€Å"open happiness† before. This research has also helped prove that the advertising campaign of Coca-Cola now was rated just above average by the consumers. However, since Coca-Cola has managed to build up loyal consumers through the years, the statistics show that even though the advertising material may come out confusing or â€Å"just okay†, consumers will still continue to patronize Coca-Cola no matter what advertising material they produce. In spite of this, Coca-Cola should not be complacent with their current loyal customers. They should still invest in advertising campaigns that would appeal to their market. They should focus more on the younger generations as they are the group that is still trying to discover new products. The darkness closed in over her – Creative extended writing

The darkness closed in over her. She could feel it getting nearer. Every breath a vicious flash back of her life. â€Å"Don't hurt me,† she sobbed. â€Å"Please don't hurt me†. Still he came, closing in on her. The silence was deadly. She huddled against the cold, damp wall, paralysed with fear. She thought that if she moved he would easily find her, but it was useless, he knew where she was anyway. She tried closing her eyes and block out thoughts of what he would do, willing herself to disappear. There was no escape now. She was stuck, watching him draw nearer, if she closed her eyes, visions would appear. Horrible visions of him committing the deadly crime. Over and over in her mind, she could see herself being killed and lying dead on the dark floor of the secluded warehouse. â€Å"No!† she screamed. Eyes wide open. She couldn't believe it. She was alive. He was gone. It had changed, there was no longer the dripping pipes or piled boxes of the warehouse. Instead, she found herself in a green field, daisies and rabbits everywhere. She was stunned, suddenly the terrible death scene had transformed into something completely different. Something she liked. The sun was setting over the hills, the gentle breeze caressing her face. She sat on a soft patch of heather and sighed. Turning to see the view, everything disappeared from her line of sight and all she saw was rubble flying everywhere. An earthquake, maybe, or a bomb. She crouched down to dodge the rocks that were falling like rain. Then she felt the rocks start to disintegrate beneath her. She started to panic. What was happening? She fell and landed on something soft. It looked familiar, where was she? â€Å"I know this place,† she whispered to herself. She felt soft flooring underneath the soles of her bare feet. Reaching down with her hand, she touched a rug. Her rug. She was back in her room. But something was different. Something was missing. Light. Everything was in darkness and the atmosphere was eerie. Something wasn't quite right. She tried closing her eyes tight again, imagined she was somewhere else. Hoping that when she opened her eyes again, everything would be okay. But things don't work that way. Horror struck as she realised she couldn't open her eyes. â€Å"I can't open my eyes!† she screamed, running into the wall. She desperately clawed at her eyes but to no avail. Then ‘POP!' Her ears popped and she lost all sense of hearing. Deaf, blind, it can't get any worse! Could it? Just as she thought it was the end, the vision of her home faded into sight. Taking a deep breath, she stepped into the hallway. Smiling as she recognised each and every familiar crack in the paintwork. Her dads' handiwork. â€Å"Ahem.† She spun round to face a police officer. â€Å"And what are you doing here young lady?† he said in an immaculate British accent. â€Å"I†¦I live here† she stammered. â€Å"Preposterous!† cried the police officer. â€Å"You can't live here!† close to tears, she looked him in the eye and said. â€Å"Why not?† Just as the police officer was about to answer, her little brother stared at her in shock from behind him. His face completely drained of colour. He gulped and said â€Å"Officer, tell me you can see her too.† What was going on? Had he gone crazy? Was something going on in his warped 14 year old mind? What could he possibly mean by that? â€Å"Yes I see her. What a strange thing to ask. She obviously there, I mean†¦Ã¢â‚¬  he stopped dead in his tracks. â€Å"Oh goodness. Is that†¦?† her brother nodded slowly, hardly believing it himself. â€Å"But that's impossible!† exclaimed the police officer. â€Å"How can it be?† â€Å"How can what be?† she asked. â€Å"What's going on?† she stared at her brother, waiting for him to answer. â€Å"You're dead.† It was so simple. Amazing what two little words could do. She couldn't believe her ears. â€Å"I'm what?† she whispered. â€Å"You're dead sis. But then, how come I can see you? Are you like†¦some kind of spirit now? A ghost?† she stared blankly at him. He stared expectantly back into her eyes. Amidst the silence, the police officer crept away. â€Å"I†¦I don't know.† She said. â€Å"Am I†¦Am I dreaming?† she stammered. Confused, she held her heavy head in her hands. Her eyes rolled into her head and colours swirled in her mind. She felt as light as air. Just like a ghost! She looked at her hands and she could see her brothers' horrified face through them. â€Å"Delise?† he cried her name. She was too shocked to speak as she faded away into nothingness, or so her brother thought. She found herself in a beautiful, peaceful garden, full of tulips, her favourite. There was a sparkling pond with a weeping willow hanging over it providing some cool shade. She couldn't help but relax and it felt so good. There was a tall, young man standing in the middle of it, she wondered how she had not noticed him until just now. â€Å"Delise Patterson,† he smiled. â€Å"I've been expecting you† â€Å"I'm dead,† was all she could say. â€Å"No people never die, you are not a ghost, you are a person. That body was your ghost. Now you are free of it. Now you are nothing but yourself, like it was meant to be.† He smiled warmly at her but she didn't return it. â€Å"I have to go back! I want to go back!† she cried. â€Å"Why would you want to return to a place where you can feel pain, where you can get hurt, where you can hurt others?† he asked, â€Å"This is paradise.† â€Å"I was murdered! Please show me how to go back!† she screamed. â€Å"Why do you want to go back?† he repeated the question patiently. â€Å"I have to find the bastard who killed me!† she screamed angrily. â€Å"No!† he flared out. â€Å"I'm not letting you get away! Not again, not ever.† â€Å"Get away again?† she said to herself. What could he mean again? Have they met before? Impossible. She was sure she could recognise a face like that. Beautiful, yet twisted. Charming, yet deceptive. Cocky, yet hesitant. â€Å"Never again will I let you escape. My whole life spent searching for something, and in a matter of seconds, it's gone. She's gone. You, were gone.† He said, close to tears. Delise could sense that if she didn't do anything soon, he'd be sobbing uncontrollably and she'd never get out. She'd never go back. Back home. But she needed to get back to take her wicked revenge. â€Å"Please stop crying. I†¦I will come back.† But he still wept. Delise was starting to get irritated. â€Å"Come on don't be pathetic, what do you mean you won't let me go again?† â€Å"You don't recognise me do you?† he said through tears. â€Å"Why should I?† she asked, puzzled. â€Å"How can I recognise you if I don't know who you are?† â€Å"But you DO know me. You DO!† he cried. â€Å"How can you not recognise your own brother?† Silence. â€Å"Tim?† she whispered. â€Å"Yes,† he whispered back. â€Å"Tim.† He didn't know why he did that. Lied to her. He guessed Tim was her brother. He'd change his name to Tim now. Yes. Tim. â€Å"You look so different.† She said stunned. â€Å"Tim. If you love me, you will let me go back. Don't you want the person who murdered me to get what they deserve? She sobbed. â€Å"You're not dead.† He said. â€Å"How many times do I need to tell you? You're not dead!† he paused. How could he come up with a believable reason? â€Å"I took you here to be†¦safe.† Delise stared in disbelief. â€Å"I didn't want you to get hurt.† He said. â€Å"Hurt?† she questioned. â€Å"Yes. Hurt. Hurt by†¦me.† â€Å"What? But you're my brother! Why would you hurt me?† she cried. â€Å"I'm not your brother and you can't leave. I have to protect you from him.† â€Å"This is crazy.† She said. â€Å"I'm protecting you from him, the guy in the sky, the man upstairs, GOD.† â€Å"What? I'd rather be dead than stay here with you, you psycho.† â€Å"Oh no you don't.† he muttered. â€Å"Nobody stands up to me and gets away with it!† he screamed. â€Å"I am the most powerful being there is! Fear me mortal!† â€Å"DELISE!† she heard a man's voice. â€Å"Don't look into his eyes! It's Satan!† Satan? She knew she was in real trouble now. Clamping her eyes shut she screamed for help. Nobody came. The darkness closed in over her. She could feel it getting nearer. Every breath a vicious flash back of her life†¦ She felt dizzy. Exhausted and sick. Ill with confusion. Fatigued, she fell into a deep sleep. * * * * * Delise awoke to the sound of humming. A mellifluous tune. Calming and dreamy. She hummed along as if she knew the tune all her life. Smiling, she sat up. Beside her, a man in his early twenties aroused, dazed. Not the man she met in the garden, he was too peaceful to be evil. â€Å"Delise,† he whispered. â€Å"Is it really you?† â€Å"Yes.† She whispered back. â€Å"Who are you?† â€Å"Tim.† He smiled. Truth in his eyes. Eyes that have seen too much. Eyes like Delise's. â€Å"It's really you this time, I can tell.† She said. â€Å"Oh Tim!† she cried as she threw her arms around him. â€Å"I won't ever leave you again.† Tim's eyes started to fill with tears â€Å"That day†¦when the house was burgled and mum and dad†¦well you know†¦where did you go?† he whispered between sobs. â€Å"You just sort of†¦faded out of sight. All those years I thought you were dead.† He sobbed. â€Å"I'm sorry Tim.† She really was. â€Å"I was so alone! My friends turned on me. They called me an unwanted orphan. So long, Delise, too long.† â€Å"Do they still†¦Ã¢â‚¬  she couldn't think of what to say. â€Å"Bully me? Call me names? No.† He said. â€Å"Never again. I am forever rid of them. The world is forever rid of them.† Her eyes widened in shock. â€Å"Oh Tim you didn't did you? Oh please say it's not true!† she wept hysterically. Without waiting for his answer, she ran. She ran for what seemed like forever until she was out of breath. Panting, she rested her pounding head on the cool wall of the dimly lit corridor. By now, she was sobbing uncontrollably, she couldn't, wouldn't believe it. Her little brother? He's a†¦she couldn't bring herself to even think the word. Suddenly, she froze. Footsteps. Behind her. She waited. Still the footsteps drew nearer, ever closer, the pace matching that of her hearts'. Spinning round, she searched for the eyes of her stalker. There was no one there. â€Å"Delise.† Said a voice behind her. She gasped in horror. â€Å"Murderer.† Whispered Delise. â€Å"Delise, you need to understand, I had to do it. There was no other option.† â€Å"No other option.† Said Delise coolly. â€Å"No other option!† she turned on him, pushing and shoving, wrapping her slender but strong arms around his dark neck. â€Å"Don't give me that you little piece of shit! I'm ashamed of you Tim. You are a disgrace.† She hissed. â€Å"It was either them or me. Satan is in charge of the world now and he controls everything. There's no escape Delise. He's even watching us right now. He makes people fight for his fun, but there's no loser until someone dies. They had to die.† Still hitting him, but now more feebly, she wept. She wept for her brother, she wept for those he killed, but more than anything, she wept for herself as she saw an image play in her mind. She was standing, covered in blood. Someone else's blood. â€Å"This is it. You ready?† sneered a woman also covered in blood. Delise glared hard at her. â€Å"You look just like my mother. I'm home† she spat back. Screaming, the anonymous woman ran at her dagger at the ready. Barbarically, Delise mirrored her actions but was a split second too late. The cold metal touched her skin seductively before breaking the skin, scraping her ribcage, piercing her already broken heart. Eyes wide open; Delise didn't even have a chance to scream. The taste of fresh blood in her dry mouth, gushing out onto the sandy floor. A stinging mixture of blood, sweat and tears as she realised this was no vision. She fell forwards, pushing the dagger all the way through so that it protruded her back. The darkness closed in over her. She could feel it getting nearer. Every breath a vicious flash back of her life. Closing her eyes, she let herself drift into sleep, never to wake again.

Operating System common on the Internet Essay

This paper discusses the various types of operating systems that are commonly used for the internet. The paper explains the general meaning of the operating systems and then discusses the various types of operating systems which support the internet applications. An operating system is a software component of a computer system that is responsible for the management of various activities of the computer and the sharing of computer resources. Operating Systems provide a base software platform on top of which other programs called application programs can run. Operating systems enable user to interact with the computer systems by acting as an interface between users or the application programs and the computer hardware. The different operating systems available in the market offer a wide choice for the user. However, with the increasing internet usage, the choice of operating system greatly depends on how well the OS supports the activities of the internet based applications. The different operating systems provide different types of browsers to enable internet usage. Linux is the most popular operating system for the internet and is based on UNIX, just like the Mac OS X. Linux offers larger amount of free space and open source software and is more equipped than any of the other counterparts. Comparing the features of the various OS, Hughes states that one of the most important features of the Linux operating system is its set of internet clients and servers including mail, news, FTP, web as well as the proxy clients and servers. Owing to the range of Linux distributions to offer, Linux is easily customizable. The use of compatibility layers such as Wine, makes Linux attuned with the windows programs and hence a good choice for the internet. The system is less prone to viruses and hence more reliable, especially for the internet. The system is freely available and far less expensive. This advanced operating system is most popular and recommended for internet users. BSD operating systems are very similar to Linux operating systems and fully support internet access. Both Linux and BSD come with full functionality for regular dial-up, PPP-based, cable modem, and Ethernet connections. Sun Operating system, which is a part of Sun Microsystems Solaris, is yet another OS commonly used for internet networked applications (Linfo, 2004). Although not so commonly used, BSD and IRIX also considered as good operating systems for the internet applications. Linux is considered to be safer for web hosting servers. It is found to b more reliable, stable and efficient (Internet-Web Hosting). Microsoft Windows has been the most common operating system. The series of operating systems started with MS_DOS, Windows 95, Windows NT, XP and the now popular Windows Vista. Owing to the largest library of programs and applications, and the ease of hardware compatibility that it renders, Windows continues to be one of the commonly opted operating systems. However, considering the performance speed and security issues, Windows might not be the best choice for the internet. Windows operating system is prone to viruses and spy ware because of which it necessitates the installation and maintenance of the internet security software. Apple’s Mac OS X is the second most popular operating system based on UNIX. The OS is relatively simpler and more compatible. It offers many advanced features along with an intuitive interface. Mac OS X supports second largest selection of software and is the most reliable operating system. Unlike the Windows Operating system, Mac OS X is not prone to virus or malware and is a better choice for the internet when compared to Windows for certain cases. However, the limited compatibility with the Apple hardware imposes a constraint on the system being used across the internet. Unlike the Windows, the Mac OS X does not require the frequent expenditure on the internet security software subscriptions and is thus less expensive as compared to the Windows. The choice of Operating Systems for running Internet applications primarily depends on the type of user. While Windows may be the choice of home and leisure users, Linux is generally used by professionals. Windows offers ease of use whereas Linux provides Security and Open source. Encounter with God Essay As I recall a moment in my life which I had experienced a liberating and transforming encounter with God, the first thing that came into my mind was my first confession to the priest back when I was in our first year recollection. I can still remember how nervous I am that time because I didn’t really know what to do inside the confession room. But then, before I entered the room, I gave myself a time to just relax and think conscientiously all the sins I have made against God, family, friends and my neighbors. That time, I felt so relieved of the fact that I have realized that I was once wrong. When it was my turn to go inside, the feeling of nervousness lowered down. It’s as if I have accepted and opened myself to what reality with God is – and that’s the act of confession. While confessing my sins to the priest, it seems like I am having my most honest conversation with Him. I can really tell that it was exactly the real me who’s talking to God. With that encounter, I was enlightened that God have transformed me to be the real me. I felt liberated from the barriers that tried to hide the essence of my existence. After that loving encounter with God, I have fully accepted what I really am – a thinking being capable of caring and hurting, but had always acknowledged change. I promised to Him not to do the same mistake twice – and be open to whatever life brings. That was the time when my view of life became clearer, that in however way God shows life to me, it’s always for my own good and for a significant reason and purpose. I can’t say now if I have really fulfilled my promises to Him, but one thing is for sure that I have always been carrying out all His goodness to me.

So, if John’s drinking is not backed up with the best reasons possible for doing them, then John’s decision is not morally correct according to utilitarianism. 3. 4. Inclusion, Equality And Diversity in Learners As teachers we all want our learners to reach their full potential with their studies. In order for the learners to do this its important for the tutor to be mindful of the issues of equality and diversity. These issues will be discussed here as well as ways to promote inclusive learning which help the learners to get the most out of their learning. Each learner is different due to different previous experiences and this means we must tailor our teaching so that it is appropriate to each individual learners needs. In terms of equality and diversity the relevant factors we must be sensitive to when teaching are disability, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity/race, age, religious beliefs and economic/social needs. The diverse backgrounds and experiences of individual learners are what make teaching so exciting and challenging. To tackle these challenges tutors need to employ a number of strategies to promote inclusive learning which means getting all the students involved in the learning. Inclusive learning can be achieved in a number of ways such as providing grants to those on lower incomes so they can complete a course at a lower cost or for free. If there are wheelchairs users on the course the appropriate venue for the teaching must be chosen so that access is as easy as possible. A ground floor venue is likely to be the preferred option or where a particular class has to be above the ground floor it must have the option for the wheelchair user to be able to use a lift. For students that have a disability (such as being blind or deaf, etc.) it may be useful for the student to have learning support whilst attending the classes. Carefully prepared resources can also help with inclusive learning. For example, handouts should be in a font size which is big enough (and without serifs) to help partially sighted learners with reading it. Any resources need to be in plain English (i.e. avoid unnecessary jargon). A good layout combining pictures and text is far more stimulating for learners than just blocks of text. Coloured paper may help those who are dyslexic. When it comes to the actual teaching the tutor can use a number of techniques to encourage inclusive learning. These include using different learning styles, differentiation and varying the activities and interaction between the learners. Its understood that different people assimilate information with different learning styles such as auditory, visual, aural and kinaesthetic methods. Differentiation is when the teaching methods match and challenge an individuals needs and ensure their interest and enthusiasm in the subject is maintained. Understanding your students abilities will ensure the right balance of methods and different activities are used. Other points of referral which are available to meet the potential needs of learners include the hardship fund, learner support fund, Citizens Advice Bureau, Job Centre Plus, Norfolk Deaf Association, Sensory Support, MIND, etc. Legislation and Metropole Learning For my job role I require an understanding of all current legislation, policies and procedures. I feel we have these in place so we have a guideline and it also protects tutors and students while working in a teaching environment. I am new to the teaching environment so I have had to learn the different aspects of the current legislative requirements. I follow the Institute for Learning (IfL) guidelines which is a professional body for teachers, trainers, tutors, student teachers and assessors in the further education and skills sector. IFL listens and supports the needs of registered members and it continues to raise the status of teaching practitioners across the sector. My current employer (Metropole Learning) makes sure that I have up to date information on legislative requirements and codes of practices. And I am also aware where to obtain this information if needed. The Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) An independent employer-led sector skills council responsible for the professional development of all those working in community learning and development, further education, higher education, libraries, archives and information services and work based learning across the UK. I would use the knowledge that I have gained from LLUK to increase the quality of my working area (Life Skills). I would also make sure that I incorporate the six core principles: integrity respect care practice disclosure responsibility There are many more legislations that I have to be aware of while teaching. It is important that I keep up to date with these legislations and part of my responsibility is to make sure that they are been adhered to and I know what procedure to follow if this is not the case. Data Protection Act Each learner that I have will have their own file which holds personal and confidential information (address, contact details and medical history). These files are kept in a cabinet which is locked in the main office but I have access to these. Health Safety Act When teaching I am always making sure that the environment that I am working in is suitable for me and my learners. Making any adjustments where necessary, for example if there are wheelchair users or people with epilepsy. I carry out any risk assessments that maybe needed and I am aware of the companyà ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢s fire procedure including the usage of fire equipment. Race Relations Act, Discrimination Act, and Equal Opportunities It is very important in my job role to have the correct information, knowledge and understanding of these legislations. As the learners that I work with have learning and physical disabilities. I make sure that we have adequate facilities and adapt my resources to make sure that nobody is discriminated against. This essay has helped to summarise the broad range of different people that you can expect to meet in the classroom and has suggested a number of ways to help increase the inclusivity of those learners. Preface Financial statements are prepared and presented for external users by many enterprises around the world. Although such financial statements may appear similar from country to country, there are differences which have probably been caused by a variety of social, economic and legal circumstances and by different countries having in mind the needs of different users of financial statements when setting national requirements. These different circumstances have led to the use of a variety of definitions of the elements of financial statements; that is, for example, assets, liabilities, equity, income and expenses. They have also resulted in the use of different criteria for the recognition of items in the financial statements and in a preference for different bases of measurement. The scope of the financial statements and the disclosures made in them have also been affected. The International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) is committed to narrowing these differences by seeking to harmonise regulations, accounting standards and procedures relating to the preparation and presentation of financial statements. It believes that further harmonisation can best be pursued by focusing on financial statements that are prepared for the purpose of providing information that is useful in making economic decisions. The Board of IASC believes that financial statements prepared for this purpose meet the common needs of most users. This is because nearly all users are making economic decisions, for example, to: (a) decide when to buy, hold or sell an equity investment; (b) assess the stewardship or accountability of management; (c) assess the ability of the enterprise to pay and provide other benefits to its employees; (d) assess the security for amounts lent to the enterprise; (e) determine taxation policies; (f) determine distributable profits and dividends; (g) prepare and use national income statistics; or (h) regulate the activities of enterprises. The Board recognises, however, that governments, in particular, may specify different or additional requirements for their own purposes. These requirements should not, however, affect financial statements published for the benefit of other users unless they also meet the needs of those other users. Financial statements are most commonly prepared in accordance with an accounting model based on recoverable historical cost and the nominal financial capital maintenance concept. Other models and concepts may be more appropriate in order to meet the objective of providing information that is useful for making economic decisions although there is presently no consensus for change. A 21st century manager should possess three traits and utilize them to lead organizations: the ability to stimulate change, excellent planning capabilities, and ethics. What a manager does and how it is done can be categorized by Henri Fayol's four functions of management: Planning, Organizing, Leading and Controlling. Through these functions managers can be catalysts for change or by definition change agents - "People who act as catalysts and manage the change process." (Robbins, Bergman, Stagg and Coulter, 2000, p.438) Whether performing the role of the change agent or not, change is an integral part of a manager's job. Change is "An alteration in people, structure or technology." (Robbins et al., 2000, p.437) Change occurs within and around organizations today at an unprecedented speed and complexity. Change poses threats and creates opportunities. The fact that change creates opportunities is reason why managers need to encourage change. What a manager can change falls distinctively into the three categories stated in the definition of change: people, structure, and technology. The manager can make alterations in these areas in an attempt to adapt to or facilitate change. The change of people involves changing attitudes, expectations, perceptions and behavior. In â€Å"The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,† Huck and Jim both endure many hardships, and they struggle daily in search of their freedom. Huck is a young free spirited boy that loves adventure and lacks the necessity of civilization; his partner in crime is Jim, a runaway slave. As Huck and Jim float down the Mississippi River they are faced with an overwhelming amount of difficult situations and circumstances. Some of the struggles that Huck and Jim experience are slavery, society, civilization, nature, and villainess behavior. Huck also has many moments where he is at unease with his conscience, and often wonders if the decisions that he is making are made with the right intentions. While Huck and Jim are on the search for their freedom, the two grow stronger as individuals and as friends. Although, Huck and Jim face conflict in the novel, the novel itself has many conflicts with society too. Many may say it is racist, while others argue that because of Huck’s chara cter the novel is â€Å"coarse.† Throughout my paper, I will discuss and analyze Huck and Jim’s struggles, and the struggles in which the novel may face on its own. Throughout, the novel you begin to realize that every time Huck or Jim go ashore, they end up in trouble. Despite their troubled times ashore, they also encounter difficulties on the river as well. For example, the flooded river makes navigating the river challenging, The Walter Scott almost cost Huck and Jim their lives, the fog causes them to miss to Ohio River, and the two villainous cons forced Huck to be involved in their malicious schemes. Huck and Jim begin realizing they are not completely free from the evil influences of the towns along the river’s banks. Regardless of the rivers challenges, it still of... ...reedom. They battled against Mother Nature, evil villains, and society, but in the end they conquered them all. Regardless of society’s ways like, religion and slavery Huck and Jim made their own perceptions on life. Huck and Jim fought to ensure their freedom, and it made them stronger as individuals and closer as friends. Also, I would like to point out that conflict between right and wrong exists within all of humanity; it is something that we cannot escape no matter how hard we try. What matters is that we remain true to who we are and our values. Many of the decision that Huck made were made from his heart; he didn’t let society change the person that he wanted to become. Huck is a strong character and so is this novel. I enjoyed it from the beginning and would say that anyone who criticizes this novel is overlooking what this novel is truly about, â€Å"by and by.†

  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I spent the night before contemplating how I was going to get out of school on Thursday.   There was a social studies test I didn’t study for and I just could not bare another day of dodge ball.   On the morning of September 11, 2001 I woke up â€Å"sick†.   I pleaded with my mother, and took a fake trip to the bathroom because I was going to â€Å"vomit†.   Finally, I was allowed to stay home.   At 6:00 am,   I was ordered to go back to sleep and I did.   I looked forward to my day alone as I lingered between sleeping and waking pondering how I was going to fill my day with – snacks, computer games, and loud music. September 11, 2001 began as a childhood scheme and it ended with me growing up.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I dozed much of the morning and awoke to the sound of my brother’s radio alarm going off.   It was Thursday and he shouldn’t be home.   I pouted as I slowly got out of bed to see if I was truly alone.   I walked down the hall and stopped briefly at the bathroom and then into my brother’s room.   He was gone, and the alarm had been set wrong.   The people on the radio droned on and on.   I wandered around the room hoping to find a magazine that I let brat borrow weeks ago. As I was on my knees peaking under the bed the words on the radio became clear.   I heard the word â€Å"terrorists† and the fragments of statements like â€Å"hundreds died this morning when†.   Then, I could only hear my heart beat in my ears.  Ã‚   I got to my feet and for the first time since being a child, I felt real panic. The sort of panic you feel when you are four and you have wandered away from your parents.   Once I caught my breath I made my way to the family room, frantically searching for the remote.   I turned on the television to MSNBC and the first image I saw was a man jumping from a broken window of one of the twin towers.   I was baffled and this would be the image that would haunt my dreams, my waking memories, and what it meant to be an American.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I heard the details over and over again.   The errorists had hijacked three planes and deliberately crashed them into the Pentagon and the Twin Towers.   The video clips played again and again on the news.   The smoke filled horizons around the crumbling buildings.   Paper was flying everywhere and the sound of heart broken people wailing in the background filled the screen.   I stared and there were moments where I thought it might be a movie and all I had to do was change the channel.   The phone must of rang a dozen times before I answered it   It was my mother on the other end, asking me again and again if I was ok.  Ã‚   She told me she would be home soon.   I waited, though I did not know for what, and watched.   The Towers were now in flames as the reporters spoke in what seem like whispers.   Their words almost silenced but the sound of a city slowly dying.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   I remember hearing the back door open and close, and my mother sitting down next to me.   It was the first time since I was a child that she held my hand and I let her.   Stunned, we sat together as the news reported that at 8:40 am the terrorists crashed planes into the World Trade Center.   It was hard to comprehend.   My mother cried and I cried too except on the inside.   I watched her body shake as she twisted her ring around and around her finger.   My mother, who could out talk just about everyone we knew, was speechless.   It was then that I understood – she was scared too.   I hugged my mother and told her everything would be all right.   I told her we would be safe and that we had each other.   I made us coffee and we spent much of the afternoon talking about what happened, what could happen, and what we would do.   What we spoke about most was â€Å"why†.   Why did the terrorists hate Americ a?   Why did people kill other people for no apparent reason?   Comforting my   mother in the ways she had comforted me for so many years, came unexpectedly to me.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Over the next few months we followed the story as did the world.   I can remember President Bush attempting to comfort the United States and telling us America would be going to war for reasons that weren’t clear to me then and certainly aren’t clear to me now.   Suddenly video games and staying home from school just weren’t important anymore.   Dodge ball did not seem so bad.   Instead of hiding from my parents I sought them out, wanting to discuss my day and theirs together.   I do not believe what does not kill us makes us stronger.   However, I think that what does not kill us makes truly value what we have in life and to realize how much our family and friends mean to us.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   My family and I became very active in volunteer activities especially with the Red Cross.   We donated bottled water, clothing, blankets, and food.   Our community held local charity events to raise money for the victims of September 11 including those firemen and police officers who gave their lives in the fires of 9/11.   It was the first time I or my family had ever become involved in activities that did not directly benefits ourselves.   The sense of community and patriotism that was built in the months following the terrorists attacks still exists with me today.   We now volunteer regularly as a family for a number of charities.   Through the destruction of the Twin Towers, I finally understood my place and role in society.   Not as a bystander but an active and willing participant.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   On September 11, 2001 many people lost their lives and I gained my independence from childhood fantasies.   Before that Thursday in September, I never thought about life and death.   I never considered the consequences of war and the denial of freedoms.   Now that I am older, I realize that September 11, 2001 was not just pivotal point for me but America itself.   Not since Pearl Harbor had the United States been unexpectedly attacked on it’s own land.  Ã‚   Just as families pulled together so did the United States as a whole.  Ã‚   We cried together and we healed together.  Ã‚   To actually witness the attacks was life changing but to be part of the healing process was life affirming. And in the 3rd year May 20, 2005 he was still improving, so after the incidents in 2003 Bennie made great improvement after being reprimanded for not taking vitals and he has not had a problem since. On February 7, 1997 King Lovell put in an application to work at Patton – Fuller Community Hospital. O n February 20, 1997, King Lovell received a letter from Patton – Fuller Community Hospital offering the RN Staff Nurse position.King official start date was March 17, 1997. King Lovell received his annual employee evaluation in 1998 by the RN Staff Nurse. In his general evaluation different job specifics were evaluated. King in 12 different occasions was late and his dependability was unacceptable. For the first evaluation, King was informed to enroll in documentation classes that were going to start within that month due to needing some work. It  is expected that  you will complete  all entries in  the  patient’s record  and that  you  will properly  sign  all notations  at  least once on  each  shift. King received another annual evaluation in 1999, where his attendance, attitude, and dependability were still lacking.Due to lack of improvement over the last year’s evaluation, he was terminated. The files show due diligence was followed and given in different occasion by informing King Lovell to take additional classes to improve his job performance and was also given verbal warnings to improve, but the employee failed to show improvement and continued to lack. On March 10, 2007 Louise McFate applied for the position of Director of Infection Control at Patton-Fuller Community Hospital.On May 9, 2007 Louise McFate received a hire Letter from PFCH offering her the position of Director of Infection Control with an official start date of July 11, 2007. On October 12, 2007, Louise McFate received her 90 day evaluation and received a rating of 2. 0 (Acceptable) in all areas. On January 14, 2008, McFate received her 6 months evaluation and again received a rating of 2. 0 in all areas. On July 14, 2008 McFate received her first annual review and received an improved overall score of 2. 17.Unfortunately, on November 7, 2008 Louise McFate received a corrective action form stating that the Joint Commission issued a Request for Improvement on a needle disposal violation found during their visit. Although this is McFate’s first and only corrective action they did advise her to continue to establish procedures to prevent any further needle disposal violations. Louise McFate did not sign this corrective action form because she did not agree with it and believes she was singled out unfairly because Mr.Adair from the joint Commission targeted her in retaliation after she declined a dinner invitation from him. This does require investigation from the organization to determine if indeed there was a violation made or if in fact it was in retaliation towards McFate. In the meanwhile, McFate needs to keep on her toes because this still goes in her file and there may not be a way to prove it. According to McFate there is no need for due diligence and they haven’t followed up with her progress or had any other incidents following this one.On March 15, 1995 Alva Branham filled out an application for a Security Officer position for Patton-Fuller C ommunity Hospital. Five days later, on March 20, 1995, Branham received a hire letter from Patton-Fuller Community Hospital. Branham official start date would be on April 3, 1995 as followed with orientation dates. Branham annual employee evaluation came up on April 9, 1996 by the Manager of Security. Over the years Branham annual employee evaluation scores has become decreased in some employee evaluations.On one of Branham employee evaluations, it was commented by the Manager that Branham has misplaced company radios and also not being available for central control or other staff to get up with you especially in an emergency. Branham has also been missing 15 days of work over the past 8 ? months which is unacceptable and in violation of the attendance policy.
